Territory Sales Manager

Are you a charismatic biologist who has a passion for technology? Are you up for travelling internationally, collaborating with world-renowned scientists, and getting hands-on with robots?

You will be making high-value equipment sales to Pharmaceutical, Biotechnological, and Academic research labs across North America. You will help to provide the ever-changing voice of the customer, and crucially, provide front-line biological applications expertise and training to our customers and team.

The Team

You will report directly to the Sales & Marketing Manager. You will form a crucial part of the Sales & Marketing team, working especially closely with our wonderful customers and collaborators; our marketing team; the internal and remote sales force – in Singer laboratories across four different time zones; as well as our Customer Success, Strategic, and Product teams to automate science across the globe.

The Reward

The work you do will help scientists in laboratories in over 50 countries accelerate their research – efforts on global challenges, such as cures for cancer and solutions for renewable energies (and more important stuff, like brewing tastier beer!)

Core responsibilities

This is a sales & marketing role first and foremost, but you’ll get involved in experimental planning and stay at the forefront of cutting-edge research!


Starting at:
£35,000 – £41,000 p.a.

  • Responsibly unpacking our customers’ needs and demonstrating scientific and technological solutions, which will achieve their goals.
  • Maintaining and growing North America’s sales pipeline to exceed departmental targets.
  • Responding to customer enquiries and forging strong relationships with key accounts.
  • Representing and communicating the voice-of-the-customer and the demands of the North American market

Secondary responsibilities

As a mid-level position in a relatively small and rapidly-expanding business, you will experience a varied role, challenging you and allowing you to gain exposure to many aspects of business that larger companies would be less likely to provide to scientists during their careers. Some of the hats you will get to try on include:

  • International travel; scientific conference organisation and attendance.
  • Market and customer research.
  • Scientific collaboration across teams, including Product, Market, and Application development.
  • Content Marketing.
  • Collaborating on applications papers.
  • Budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Data analysis, scripting, and business systems.
  • Grant writing and contract negotiation.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Training & Development of other team members.
  • Management & Leadership.


  • MSc or PhD (preferred) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology or a similar field.
  • Confidence & personality
  • A skilled negotiator
  • A high level of written and spoken English
  • Keen traveller
  • Broad understanding of microbial genetics/genomics, or a similar field
  • Solid computational skills, particularly databases & spreadsheets
  • A fantastic ability to organise and prioritise
  • Both a good team player and independent worker
  • Enthusiastic, proactive and motivated to succeed

Bonus Skills

These aren’t required but you should definitely mention in your application if you tick any of these boxes:

  • Experience of any type of relationship management or sales and marketing
  • Hands-on, practical robotics (or similar technical) experience
  • Experience of having attended an international scientific conference during MSc/PhD training
  • Experience in any leadership role
  • Geeky hobbies.
  • Additional languages.
  • A valid and clean driving licence.

Our customers are doing amazing things across all facets of biological science including genetics, neuroscience, cancer biology and biofuel engineering. Our customers include the world’s top 50 universities, NASA and some of the most famous beer and wine producers. The beer in your fridge may have been researched using one of our microscopes!
