What is the MSM 400?

The MSM 400 is an intelligent semi-automated tetrad dissection workstation. It makes it quick and easy to dissect, sort and catalogue meiotic progeny, at up to 20 sets of tetrads per petri.

Big brother to the SporePlay+, the comfortable ergonomic design and precision X, Y & Z axis needle control makes the MSM 400 a firm favourite in leading genomics facilities worldwide.

“The piece of tech which made tetrad dissection easy for both students and post-docs in my lab was the MSM 400 because they saw it as something fun to use, so much so that they forgot to worry about how ‘difficult’ it is picking up and pulling spores apart.”

MSM 400

Precision control

Vibration-free X/Y axis needle control and a comfortable dial for the Z axis ensure precise movements. These can be smooth or stepped at 24 or 300 microns at a time. Calibrate for right or left-handed use.

screen software

Intuitive interface

A handheld joystick and micromanipulator combine with a motorised stage and touchscreen interface to facilitate the precise localisation of individual cells.

MSM 400 workflows

Our software engineers understand your biology! We work closely with
our scientific collaborators to make sure our user interface thinks like you do.

Tetrad dissection

Ascospore dissection of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Schizosaccharomyces pombe and other spore-producing species.

Ageing studies

Ageing protocols to study and record yeast cell replicative lifespan (RLS). Supported by image capture, storage and export.

Single-cell screening

Rapid sorting and documentation of individual cells in an orthogonal array.

E.g. for the study of spatiotemporal dynamics and morphology in developing yeast microcolonies.

“The MSM 400 has been instrumental in increasing the throughput and controllability of our single-cell screening experiments”
